Irresistible “I”s

ABC Wednesday is a blogging meme started by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt. Each week, those of us with extra time on our hands select a word(s) beginning with the designated letter for that week and illustrate it through a photo, poem or prose. We in the states post Tuesday afternoon (Wed for our friends across the pond) or Wednesday morning. This is Round 6 of ABC Wednesday. It’s great fun and anyone can join in at anytime. To peek at previous weeks or check out this week’s entries, click on the ABC Wednesday logo in my sidebar.

I’ve chosen to feature unusual words from The Phrontistery each week and pair them with photos of familiar things. Unusual words for the letter I are, for the most part, Icky. Here’s what I came up with for this week.

ignoscency: forgiveness
I have no photo for this one. One of the most spectacular cases of forgiveness can be found in my last post about Enemies of the Peoples.

imbricate: to lay overlapping one another

infantocracy: government by an infant
Seriously? Are you kidding? There’s really a word for this?

Speaking of Irresistible “I”s

iridic: of, like or pertaining to the iris of the eye
Army Wife has brown eyes rimmed in a hazel-green color.

Peanut has dark brown eyes.

Army Guy doesn’t have a prayer.

ixia: South African beautiful flowering plant
Next to Bird of Paradise, the hibiscus is my favorite tropical flower.

ithomiid: tropical South American butterfly
There are about 20 different species of tropical, white butterflies. The Paper Kite Butterfly or Rice Paper Butterfly is the most common. We were fortunate to be able to see thousands of these beauties at the White Flight exhibit at the Butterfly Palace around the holidays.

  3. Oooh, I love new and interesting words and there are a few in there I didn’t know! Thanks! Going to memorise them now for my Scrabble games – but don’t worry, I’ll use them in speech too, if I can! 😉
