Welcome to Round 7 of ABC Wednesday. The meme was started by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt, and people from all over the world come together to play and share their entries. Each week word(s) beginning with the designated letter are selected and illustrate through a photo, poem or prose. My twist on the meme is selecting unusual words and pairing them with photos of familiar things in my world. I’ll be pulling words from sources here, here and, of course, here.
Let’s get unusual.
kickie-wickie: a wife
This may be the strangest word I’ve seen so far, so I absolutely had to include it this week. Since we have lots of wives in our family, I chose one of my favorites…Army Wife. Shown here with her Army Guy.
kleptocracy: government by thieves
kakistocracy: government by the worst
Do we really want to go there? No, I didn’t think so.
Kylin (or Kiril or Qilin): is an ancient, mythical East Asian chimera. A chimera is a creature that’s a combination of multiple animals features. A Kylin has a dragon’s head and deer antler(s); the skin is like scales on a fish; it has hooves like an ox and the tail of a lion (or an ox, depending on whether it’s a Chinese or Japanese chimera).
Although it looks terrifying, legend states it’s normally gentle and only punishes the wicked. At that time, it becomes fierce with flames spouting from its mouth and displaying other powers, depending on the teller of the story. Overall, a Kylin is seen as a good omen that brings serenity and prosperity.
