V is for Vibrant

My bio on the right says I’m a 96-crayon-box-type of person. There is a reason for that. For me, the 8 or 16 box just doesn’t capture all the wonderful colors of life. How can you limit emotions like Love, Joy or even Despair to a few choices?

People who are 8-crayon-box types don’t understand this mentality. To them, green is green; blue is blue; purple is purple and so on. It’s hard for them to open up their mind to the nuances of color…and it’s probably equally hard for them to see the nuances in life as well. Those types tend to be staunch Black and White people in their views with very little room for Shades of Gray. They are happy to color with their predictable box of 8, never knowing what they’re missing.

How can a person live without the vibrant color of Dandelion? Or Indigo? Or Wild Strawberry? A vibrant, fulfilling life is like a vibrant, new box of crayons…offering more possibilities than we thought possible. After all, you never knows when an Olive, Kiwi, Tangerine or Pink Lemonade moment will present itself.

So go enjoy Life…creating a colorful, vibrant life with the time given to you on this earth. Use up the whole box and don’t be afraid to color outside the lines every once in a while. Life is entirely too short to be stuck in a box of 8 crayons with an attitude to match.

That, and you don’t even get a sharpener unless you have a box of at least 48.

Actually, all education is self-education. A teacher is only a guide, to point out the way, and no school, no matter how excellent, can give you education. What you receive is like the outlines in a child’s coloring book. You must fill in the colors yourself.  ~Louis L’Amour

  1. Hello Lisa,
You make me think about vibrant and I realize that I always shun it. Pastel colours are what I unconsciously take refuge in.I’m sure it has something to do with the state of one’s nervous system: loud noises make me flinch, painfully so, and vibrant means I have to avert my gaze.
Odd that I had never thought this out before.
In your ring of coloured crayons I would only pick up the two pale greens.
Not so much a matter of taste as of self-defence.

  2. I love the metaphor, Lisa. Those who can’t imagine anything less than a full spectrum of life’s colors, and those who don’t even conceive of it.

Vibrant, indeed. The range allows us to appreciate the most intense joys.
