W is for Wings

What do you think of when you hear the word, wings? Planes? Birds?

What characteristics you you think of for wings?

Did you know references to wings in the bible are common.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; ~Isaiah 40:31

You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.
~Exodus 19:3-5

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
~Psalm 91:3-5

I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
~Psalm 61:3-5

Eagle’s wings are a favorite descriptor and for good reason. An eagle’s wingspan can be between 7 and 9 feet! The bird symbolizes untiring strength, endurance and power. The word also symbolizes shelter and with a wingspan of 7-9 feet, we’re talking the size of a small room. And isn’t there just something majestic about watching an eagle (or any large bird of prey) soar effortlessly in the air?

What better symbol to represent God’s unfailing love and enduring power in our lives?

  1. Gosh! This is so apt right now because my dear Lorne was down at the dyke yesterday and caught a fantastic photo of an eagle soaring on the thermals…it was amazing to see!
