It’s not what you look at that matters,
it’s what you see.
~Henry David Thoreau
What do you see in this photo? Well, that’s easy. A run-down pier we really wouldn’t want to walk on for fear of ending up in the ocean! It’s uneven, boards are probably loose or, worse yet, missing. On the surface, it sort of looks like it could slide underwater at any given moment.
What else do you see? Yep, lots of water. Very pretty water.
Anything else?
While I see a pier that has had better days, I also see a pier that has withstood ocean storms and probably more than a few hurricanes in its lifetime. I see the sheer strength of multiple posts tightly bound together that anchor the pier in the deep, unpredictable water to give it more stability.
And I see the beauty of weathered wood and interesting shapes formed by the tests of time.
What storms have you weathered and survived? How have they made you more beautiful?
Who are the people that bind together with you to keep you from sliding into the ocean?
When you look at life, what do you really see?
Really lovely. I feel it inspiring a poem in me.

Faaaaaabulous post, Lisa!
And not only the photo and quote, but more so your written words…

Amen! It’s all in our perception.
And yes, I’ve weathered many storms in my life. All of which have made me stronger and have giving me keener vision 🙂

What I see in my world depends much upon the mood of the moment. Most of the time I see beauty and life.

Oddly enough, I saw castles in the pilings and the spot of white on the distant horizon & wondered if it was ship, where it was heading, and if there was still time to hop aboard.
