She certainly looks happy, doesn’t she? That’s because she’s learned to ride a two-wheel bike! She actually has a larger bike, but it still has the training wheels on it. This one is a good size because she can catch herself if she’s off balance before crashing and burning on the pavement.
The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom. The realization that this is what the child will always need can hit hard.

Hooray for Twix!!!
This reminds me of my own kids. Bigger Girl, with all her learning challenges, wasn’t ever supposed to be able to ride, but she taught herself.

Gosh, even to this very day I can remember my father taking me outside and trying to ride a bike for the first time. It felt like such a big deal.
