Four-year-old fur baby

It began four years ago on Memorial Day weekend when we went to pick up our new, goldendoodle fur baby. Just two months old, he slept in my arms all the way home. We named him Cabo in honor of Entrepreneur’s favorite vacay we took to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

He was intended to be my “buddy” after Entrepreneur’s cancer had taken him…which we thought might have been sooner than expected. The chemotherapy was taking its toll and he didn’t want me to be alone so he put a plan in place…because that’s what he does.

Now, four years later, Entrepreneur has ditched the chemotherapy, replacing it with immunotherapy and is doing much better. My “buddy” is true to his designated purpose as he’s my shadow—usually stuck to my side….or under my feet….or in my lap. But, that’s because I was the one who trained and took care of him while Entrepreneur battled chemo 24/7.

Cabo is our fourth canine fur baby after a collie and two golden retrievers. And, last Friday he turned four years old. He was born March 26, 2017 and came to his forever home over Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

I wasn’t sure he would see four after the “corn cob incident,” which resulted in emergency bowel obstruction surgery in October of 2019. This forever changed our process of garden fencing and clean up after harvest.

But here he is March 2021, all 60+ pounds of him! He’s considered an “adult” dog now, but I beg to differ. Even though he’s settled down a bit, there is still loads of puppy still in there.

I still have hopes of finishing our training to become a therapy dog to visit nursing homes and hospitals. The testing sites have been closed because of the pandemic and I haven’t revisited this project yet. So for now, he’s just my Walking Buddy, Stress Therapist, Secret Keeper, and Confidant.

And let’s just be honest……who could resist those eyes!

Thank you so much for sharing that because I always wondered how you got his name. I honestly thought it was an abbreviated version of the wine, Cabernet Sauvignon (Cabo). LOL!

What a beautiful story of how and why Cabo came into your lives. I remember when he first became part of your family. I thought he was ADORABLE then, and I still think he’s adorable! That face! That soft, cuddly fur!

And I think he’d make the perfect therapy dog because he has such a sweet, loving nature about him. I can see that just from the photos.

    Not me!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CABO!

    You are LOVED! X
