The end of May brings the end of school and June begins summer vacation here in middle Missouri. Summer vacay always begins with our church’s Kids Club week. This is our version of Vacation Bible School. But, this is not the VBS you might remember. When I talk to people about it, they smile and nod their head…and I know they have no idea what I’m talking about. This is not your mothers, or grandmother’s VBS. Kids Club is VBS….on some serious steroids. Complete with extensive volunteer background checks and an undercover security team in place, we provide four days of fun, food, crafts and games all centered around a Scripture passage. And, it’s provided to 700+ kids ages preschool to fifth grade. We have almost as many volunteers because it takes a small village to pull this off. Count me as one of those 700 volunteers working the week.
Peanut started Kids Club when she was five years old and attended every summer until she aged out at fifth grade. She then moved into a Junior Leader role for 6-8th grade (sans Covid cancellation in 2020) and now works alongside adult leaders. This year she assisted with one of the second grade classes. Next year, she is eligible to be a full-fledged Adult Volunteer.
Twix started Kids Club in Preschool and loves every second of the week. As a rising third grader, she’s a seasoned Kids Club veteran and handily knows her way around the schedule.
Every year there is a service project the Kids Clubbers participate in; this year was making cards and gifts for earthly heroes….our military veterans.
As a junior leader, sometimes you take the good with bad. The tug-of-war deal was for the losing team’s junior leaders to agree to take the punishment for the team. Peanut’s team of seven year olds, unfortunately, was not strong enough and she suffered the consequences so her teammates didn’t have to…..by getting slimed.
But fear not…..at the end of the week after everything was finished, junior leaders and their families can experience the water slide to top off the week’s activities. I believe it’s mainly to wash the slime off the junior leaders….but there is a mud component at the bottom of the slide.
Here is the video of the week to give you a better idea of how my summer started.
Kids Club 2022 was all about learning how Jesus is our True Hero. As the theme songs states, He is:
• Holy – Jesus is completely perfect and separate from sin.
• Exalted – Jesus ranks far above everything else because he is God.
• Rescuer – Jesus saves his people from sin.
• Omnipotent – Jesus is all-powerful. He defeats his enemies once and for all.
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ~Philippians 2:9-11
It’s a memorable four days that live in the hearts and minds of both children and adults alike every year.
I so enjoy VBS when I was a kid. Seems like it’s far more fun now. Wow.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Lisa. ♥

Wow! That looks fabulous. We do the VBS Marketplace, and the set-up is very well done but we don’t have nearly that many kids.
