Happy Tuesday: Florida style

Another sign for a giggle on a Tuesday. This one is from a restaurant close to St. Augustine, Florida. It’s located on the bank of the Tolomoto River and has stunning sunset views. Serving fresh, local seafood (and, of course, alligator), it’s a bit like going back in time….as you can see from the sign posted on the bulletin board in their front lobby.

I think there’s a lesson here we all could learn. The history of the restaurant is a colorful one. You can read about it HERE.

Tuesday’s giggle

This was a sign we saw outside an ice cream store at St. John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk January of 2017. The Pass is a seaside area in Madeira Beach, Florida that has all sorts of unique shops and restaurants. Along with shopping and eating, it also is home to a lot of very aggressive seagulls!

Seas the Day!

Some of you know our family went on vacay to Cancun, Mexico in early December. It was long overdue since the last few years have been a struggle with Entrepreneur’s brain surgery, recovery and chemo schedule. A 90-day reprieve from chemo allowed him to enjoy the holidays and this much-needed getaway with those he loves most.

While I, personally, took gigabytes of photos, we contacted the photographers that took our family photos in 2015. Surprisingly, they remembered us and we spent more than two hours on the beach capturing family memories.

Of course, we had many obligatory, formal poses of everyone and individual family units.

Once those were finished, well…..the “adult children” had a little fun with the photographers. And, judging by the laughter while shooting the photos, I think the photographers had a lot of fun with them. Hope these make you giggle a bit. All of these were spontaneous poses with no pre-planning what so ever.

Who is Daddy’s favorite?

Appropriate or Inappropriate?
These engaged lovebirds can play to the camera better than anyone I know……

…..and this sequence with the newlyweds made everyone laugh. First we have a lovely shot and very “appropriate.”

Then, it goes downhill from there….literally.

As you can tell, there is no shortage of entertainment when we get together. I’m linking up with Thankful Thursday over at Brian’s Home today because words cannot capture how thankful and grateful I am Entrepreneur was able to eat and drink his way through Cancun for a week. I’m grateful we were able to all be together to relax and decompress from life’s stress. And, I’m thankful we’ve been able to financially make this happen. No one knows the future. We may all be together for another updated photo in a few years….or not. This year could be a banner year for us…or it might hold devastating events.

But, whatever 2019 holds, these memories will live forever in my heart, and a few on the walls of our home!

Thinking about Christmas in July?

July quotography72

But here I am in July, and why am I thinking about Christmas pudding?
Probably because we always pine for what we do not have.
The winter seems cozy and romantic in the hell of summer,
but hot beaches and sunlight are what we yearn for all winter.

Take a Load Off, Mona Jamborski

Here we are in July; smack in the middle of summer. It’s hot here in the middle of land-locked Missouri….with the heat index some days in the triple digits. It was the same during our recent trip to Florida to see The Golfer. But somehow, it never seems quite as miserable when one is at the beach! Funny how that works, isn’t it?

Monthly Photo Challenge: Leap

photo blog challenge

We should have seen it coming, but I think PJ threw everyone for a loop with his prompt this month: Leap. All my pics this time are from the vacay we took this month to run away from winter. Prior to leaving, we were stupid, crazy busy and when we returned, re-entry was a bit rough. So, this is really all the photography effort I have to show for the entire month.

Leap (into the unknown) #1: As creatures of habit, we have taken a winter vacay for the past 8 years to Cancun, Mexico. We’ve been so many times, it’s almost second nature to us when we get there on where to go, what to do, how to get around, etc. It’s comfortable. It’s predictable. So, this year we changed it up and took a leap into the unknown…to the other side of Mexico and landed in Los Cabos for the very first time. Many aspects are typically “Mexico” but, for me, the feel was completely different.

Leap (of faith) #2: In light of Entrepreneur’s cancer diagnosis the end of 2014, we were not totally sure we would be all together on vacay in 2016. But we took a leap of faith and booked our winter vacay nine months in advance anyway.

Leap (of faith) #3: Peanut and her godmom, The Golfer, took a leap of faith the iguanas in their hands would play nice. We were surprised Peanut even agreed to this experience in the first place since she didn’t exactly leap at the chance to get up close and personal with the lizard.

Leap (of faith) #4: The Investigator took a leap of faith the end of last year and resigned from her Children’s Services position. Although she loved the work, she realized the long hours and high demands placed on the investigators for the money they are paid was not worth sacrificing her family life, health and sanity. She resigned without having another position in hand and took a leap of faith she would find something better. She is now a corporate recruiter for a large company headquartered in middle Missouri. And life is starting to look up for her and her two daughters. I suppose you could call her change a quantum leap in a more positive direction. She will now be referred to as The Recruiter.

Leaps (and bounds) #5: Twix officially turned two years old earlier this month, and no one can deny she is growing by leaps and bounds. Even though the terrible twos have arrived in force, she is a delight to be around and was a lot of fun to be around on vacay this year.

There’s my five for the 2016 leap year. Jump on over to PJ’s tomorrow, February 29th, to see what leaps others made in February!

Under the boardwalk, we'll be havin' some fun

boardwalk ocean quote72Texture by Kim Klassen: Urban

The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.

This is a scene captured while staying at the Fiesta Americana in Cancun, Mexico back in 2007. It’s one of my favorites and was taken the old-fashioned way….with a film camera! When we went back last year, they’d reconfigured the boardwalk…probably due to Hurricane Dolly rearranging the beach in 2008.

Which is, despite my luv for ocean and beach dreams, why I’ll probably never live on the coast of anything.

I scanned the photo into the computer and have used it in the past as one of my rotating desktop pictures. It’s now been re-purposed with a texture for Water World Wednesday.

Project64: Yellow Orange

For me, nothing says yellow orange like a blazing sunset. And why are sunsets in the Caribbean more stunning than other places? No matter. I’ve never met a sunset I didn’t like. Hope you like this one too.
