Late summer strolling

Today is the last official day of summer. We took a walk together in the garden in the Spring and again in the Summer. Remember? Seems like just yesterday, doesn’t it? Well, it’s time to stroll arm and arm again and see what’s new….

The corn tasseled a while ago and was a beautiful sight considering how the spring storms and hungry Bambie deer just about rendered the first rows a lost cause. We stuffed our faces with fresh corn on the cob for almost a month, and even had enough to take with us to Alabama for Peanut’s 3rd birthday. Twenty-four ears worth of corn for 8 people! Peanut ate 3 ears all by herself.

Hard to believe 3 months have come and gone, and now we’re getting ready for Autumn.

Thumper hung out in the front yard most of the summer…where Tanner couldn’t get to him. I’m sure he ate well all summer long.

As did the finches. Look mom, I can eat up-side-down! Can you do this? Huh? Huh? Huh?

You just never know what silly things you’ll find if you look close enough. Yes, that’s the butt-end of a beetle.

The Rose of Sharon wasted no time growing back from her haircut that chopped her from 8 feet to 6 feet.

The hummers are still dive bombing each other at the feeders, but no one wants to challenge the Downy Woodpecker when he comes to grab an easy snack.

What? You talkin’ to me?

Now, now…don’t cry. Summer will be back next year. Mom Nature is loading up her paint palette with stunning Autumn colors as we speak.

I’ll leave you with a couple of quotations from that famous author, Anonymous…

Summer should get a speeding ticket.

Summer is like the ultimate one-night stand…hot as hell, totally thrilling, and gone before you know it.

  2. A lovely walk, thank you. Will we be doing this when there’s 3 foot of snow on the ground? Just so you know, if it’s over 6″ one has the liberty of saying it’s 3 foot. We can’t come and measure to call you on it. 3 foot is much more dramatic than 6″ you know.

  3. Wonderful photos! The kids & I always talk about getting into a runner’s stance at the end of May and racing like crazy until you skid into Fall. This beautiful weekend weather reminds me of what I love about the season. Looking forward to your ‘tree pics’.
