June at warp speed 1

June was literally a blur; which is my excuse for being absent in the blogosphere. School let out the end of May and we didn’t waste any time at all with the extra curricular activities. This is how it started……

For Columbia 2021: June 5th
For Columbia an an annual city-wide service project. This year, 1200 volunteers from 41 churches came together to share God’s love by serving our community. Volunteers are organized in teams to serve individuals, non-profit organizations and other public venues on projects and events. One can tell who we are by the nifty tee-shirts given to us to wear.

Peanut (she seems a little old to call her Peanut anymore) and I were assigned with a team to work the track and field events at the statewide competition for the Missouri Special Olympics at one of the local high schools. It was a hot day and even hotter on the track. We clocked 12,000+ steps for the day in the 100F heat.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Kids Club: June 7-10
Two days later, our church’s version of vacation bible school…..on steroids…began. Canceled in 2020, this year it was back in a limited capacity but still registered 900 kids and volunteers between in-person and online. Peanut has attended every Kids Club since 2013 and this year she was eligible to be a junior leader.  This year’s theme: Go For Gold.  Each night “athletes in training” persevered through fun challenges and obstacles as they learned what it takes to reach the finish line and take hold of the prize. The focus was on Paul radical conversion and his life journey.

Kids Club week is also the week the girls stay with us 24/7 since camp is in the evenings and we don’t get home until about 9pm. It makes no sense for them to go home only to be hauled out of bed at 6:30am to be back at our house the next day so mom can go to work. So, they stay the entire week. It also may or may not be because I don’t want to have to get up and let them in the house at 7:15am every day.

 

Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. ~Hebrews 12:1-2a

After Kids Club, we took everyone on vacay to Branson, MO for the next week. My next post will be on those activities. Throw in an early Dad’s Day celebration for Papa before they girls had to leave for six weeks to visit their dad in Alabama and we have one busy first half of the month.
